Modern crafts steeped in tradition
The National Crafts Museum, which moved to Kanazawa from Tokyo in October 2020, is the only Japanese national museum specializing in crafts. The roughly 1,900 works focus on crafts and design from the late nineteenth century to the present. Among them are many pieces by Living National Treasures, a government designation for masters of a traditional art or craft.
The museum is located in the Kenrokuen Cultural Zone and is set in two Meiji-era (1868–1912) buildings.
