See, make, and buy Kaga-yuzen, high-end dyed silk
The Kaga-Yuzen Kimono Center is a small museum dedicated to Kaga-yuzen, a high-end silk dyeing technique. Kaga-yuzen is characterized by five basic colors (indigo, crimson, dark green, ocher, and royal purple) and intricate designs. The craft originated during the Edo period (1603–1867) in the Kaga domain , which included present-day Ishikawa. It flourished under the patronage of the Maeda family, lords of the domain.
The center displays Kaga-yuzen kimono made by notable artisans. Visitors can dye designs on a handkerchief or tote bag and buy small yuzen items and accessories.
